Mediation

Mediation is a process where a neutral third person (the mediator) helps people in conflict work through their disagreements and find their own solutions. Unlike a judge or arbitrator, a mediator doesn’t make decisions for the parties involved. Instead, they create a safe, structured environment for conversation and guide the discussion to help people understand each other better and find mutually acceptable outcomes.

Rae-Anne's Approach to Mediation

Rae-Anne approaches mediation with a focus on creating a respectful and balanced environment where all parties feel heard. Her process typically includes:

  1. Creating safety: Establishing ground rules and a comfortable setting where everyone feels secure sharing their perspectives.
  2. Active listening: Ensuring each person has uninterrupted time to express their concerns, needs, and interests.
  3. Facilitating understanding: Helping parties recognise underlying interests beyond stated positions and encouraging them to see the situation from multiple perspectives.
  4. Creative problem-solving: Guiding participants to generate multiple possible solutions that address everyone’s core needs.
  5. Reality testing: Helping parties evaluate potential solutions for practicality and sustainability.
  6. Agreement building: Supporting participants in crafting clear, specific agreements they can commit to following.

Rae-Anne’s mediation style emphasises empowerment – believing that people have the capacity to resolve their own conflicts when given the right support and structure. She brings warmth, impartiality, and patience to the process, creating space for thoughtful dialogue even during emotionally charged discussions. Her background in counselling enhances her ability to recognise underlying emotions and needs that may be driving the conflict.
